A Review of Shaun the Sheep Movie (2015)

This movie is a clay, stop-motion animated film for kids, containing slapstick comedy and fun characters. It’s based on a TV series called Shaun the Sheep.

The TV show and film were created by Aardman Animations, who also made Chicken Run and Wallace & Gromit. For fans of those franchise’s, Shaun the Sheep Movie is another great Aardman production, moreover fans of the TV show will love the larger scale of the movie.

One of the writers (and also directors) of Shaun the Sheep Movie was also the writer of Madagascar, a film with a similar plot; animals break free of their boring lives and head for their nearest ‘big city’.

Shaun the Sheep’s unique style of show-don’t-tell is present; plot elements are conveyed clearly- which is hard to achieve in a film intended for children and in which people speak gibberish. The montage’s are especially funny, although the backing tracks having lyrics felt a little out of place.

The new character’s and setting make for an entertaining movie for both adults and children.

Overall Rating: 7.2/10
