I often am asked “What good films should I watch?”
This series of posts will aim to answer that question, of-course in addition to my film reviews.
This post in particular offers a Cage Special Edition of What to Watch:
Con Air (1997) – A Die Hard clone that sports an all-star cast including John Cusack, John Malkovich, Ving Rhames, Steve Buscemi, Danny Trejo, Dave Chappelle and of course Nicolas himself. Hugely entertaining with interesting characters, one liners and of course action, Con Air is one the best films to be inspired by John McClane.
Lord of War (2005) – A very well directed and choreographed drama about an arms dealer (Cage) and his brother (Jared Leto) being pursued by an Interpol agent (Ethan Hawke). The opening scene, dubbed Life of a Bullet, is extraordinary. Lord of War contains some emotional scenes and some darkly comical ones.
The Rock (1996) – Michael Bay’s best work, this film has Ed Harris as an army general gone rouge, Sean Connery unofficially as 007 and Cage as the reluctant hero- Michael Biehn has a solid role as well. As a side note, the campaign for Modern Warfare 2 has many of its moments lifted straight out of this film. The Rock is an awesome yet silly movie- expect a great car chase, explosions and juvenile comedy.
These are some of my favourite Nic Cage flicks- what’re yours?
Honourable Mention to Kick-Ass. Leaving Las Vegas is on my watchlist!
