A Review of Zootropolis (2016)

“It’s called a hustle, sweetheart.”

Zootropolis or Zootopia is an action drama centring on a newly enlisted member of the police force…

Whoops, it seems I have the wrong poster… here we are:

As I was saying; Zootropolis or Zootopia is an action drama centering on a newly enlisted member of the police force.

Zootopia is consistently funny and contains a plethora of colourful characters. Kids will enjoy it’s fast-paced action scenes and wacky dialogue. From Idris Elba to Shakira, the cast are spot-on with their vocal talents.

But there is something much deeper to be found here that I’d like to focus on.

This is a film that should be seen by adults who enjoy heist films, crime dramas and other police action movies. Watch Zootropolis and see how it takes inspiration from these sub-genres and infuses them with a bright fun Disney animation.

Huge themes are dealt with in the movie; racism, terrorism, differing cultures, the war on drugs, kidnapping and corruption. As if that wasn’t enough emotional weights are added such as tradition, future aspirations and bullying. It’s scope should be applauded.

Zootropolis is a comedic adventure for some and a crime drama for others; there is almost certainly a good reason for you to watch this movie.

To summarise, Zootropolis is Training Day for kids.

Overall Rating: 8.7/10
