A Review of The Untouchables (1987)

” Never stop fighting till the fight is done”

A squad of loyal cops set out to take down Al Capone.

This is a movie so ahead of it’s time, it could have come out yesterday. The Untouchables is fantastic!

Capone (De Niro) is a power mad gangster who bribes or kills everyone in his way. Eliot Ness (Costner) is an uncorruptible cop.

The core structure of the film was distinct; Act 1, 2 and 3 all have memorable moments and advance the plot significantly.

The squad of untouchables is reminiscent of every other action film these days; The Avengers, Mission Impossible, Fast and Furious etc. The members each fill a niche and are quippy.

Sean Connery plays an experienced Irish beat cop, pushing Ness to his limits and beyond to catch Al Capone.

One of the greatest action scenes of all time also resides in this movie. Comparable to the Matrix lobby shoot out, The Untouchables contains a similarly iconic few minutes.

The Untouchables is a truly fantastic film that feels so modern and yet is much better than films of today. An action crime drama in the truest sense of the genres.

Overall Rating: 8.9/10
