A Review of Deadpool (2016)

“You may be wondering why the red suit. Well, that’s so bad guys don’t see me bleed.”

The whole thing is a joke and it could have been hit or miss. Thankfully Deadpool, one of my most anticipated movies of ’16, is awesome!

9 out of 10 jokes work, the characters are all humorously memorable and Deadpool’s costume looks great.

I appreciate the mature nature of this comedic superhero film- just what the genre needed in the midst (because Kick-Ass 2 was nowhere near as good as Kick-Ass one).

The plot has some pacing issues, but stays entertaining with a high joke rate. When the jokes aren’t flying the bullets certainly are. Watch the bodies pile up in slow motion- the film is generally well directed.

The opening credits are one of my favourite scenes of the movie. There is a post credits scene. It was somewhat predictable, but still fun. I think it’ll go over most peoples heads though.

Ryan Reynolds is spot on in the role and it’s a super fun action comedy about a crazy anti hero. The merc’-with-a-mouth gets a much better on screen depiction this time around. Plus there’s a great soundtrack to boot.

Deadpool is the kind of film you’re either already planning on seeing or avoiding, due to it’s peculiar fourth-wall-breaking humour. If it does seem like it would interest you, then you’ll probably like it.

Overall Rating: 8.6/10
