imagesFor this month’s next review for Genre Grandeur – Foreign Language Film (2013-Present), here’s a review of Ghajini (2008) by Ali of Prime Six

Thanks again to Jordan of Epileptic Moondancer for choosing this month’s interesting (if not uncomfortable for me) genre.

Next month’s Genre has been chosen by Jane of 500 Days of Film  She has chosen another genre that is well out of my own comfort zone but I am up for the challenge.  We will be reviewing our favorite Horror Films

Please get me your submissions by the 25th of Aug by sending them to horrorjane@movierob.net  Try to think out of the box! Great choice Jane!

Let’s see what Ali thought of this movie:

Let me begin by mentioning this is a remake of Christopher Nolan’s Memento (2000) and the language spoken is Hindi. It’s different enough, however, to be considered as heavily…

A Review of Jason Bourne (2016)

“I know who I am. I remember everything.”

Preface: I think the Bourne Identity, Supremacy and Ultimatum are some of the best action films ever made. All three would be very high in my overall favourite films.

Bourne (2016) has a lot to live up to.

Paul Greengrass returns with his signature shaky cam, following Captain Phillips.

SJMF: My Picks – Batgirl and Star Wars: Kingdom of Heaven

My picks for the battles fought in this episode of Screen Junkies’ Movie Fights!

ROUND 1 – Whats the Worst Part of Independence Day: Resurgence?

No intention of seeing this any time soon.

ROUND 2 – Cast a new actress and pitch a Batgirl movie.

Emma Stone as Barbara Gordon.

The training between the character and Batman. Has plenty of both masked and unmasked moments. Commissioner Gordon plays a big part (Cranston). More of a crime drama with a few major action scenes.

Pokemon GO’s Success and Future, Summarised and Surmised

I’ve never played Pokemon, never owned a Nintendo system. I watched the show a bit but preferred Yu-Gi-Oh!

I do love the first Pokemon game I’ve played, Pokemon GO. It gets me exploring and active.

Niantic

Niantic, the developers of the game, struck gold with this game. Their success was predominantly based off of brand recognition and nostalgia.

Proof: Niantic released something with similar location based game-play and not I, nor you, had heard of Ingress!

A Review of Star Trek Beyond (2016) – Calming Qualms on Bikes and Scripts

“It isn’t uncommon, you know? It’s easy to get lost. In the vastness of space, there’s only yourself, your ship, your crew.”

I had many concerns for Beyond but was very entertained by the end!

This Star Trek has a unique grounded feel, giving it its own identity. The ensemble cast are relateable and feel like a great team, as they have both times previously.

SJMF: My Picks – How Will Darth Vader Return in Rogue One?

My picks for the battles fought in this episode of Screen Junkies’ Movie Fights!

ROUND 1 – Describe the best way to incorporate Darth Vader into Star Wars Rouge One.

Minimally. He should be heard giving orders and briefly seen. In a third act crucial moment he should kill a main character without remorse or hesitation.

ROUND 2 – What film would be most improved by making Nic Cage the lead?

American Beauty. His erratic style would make it rather humorous.

Nicholas Cage should also star in a Tarantino film!

A Review of Beasts of No Nation (2015) and The Persistence of Cinema

“Bullet is just eating everything, leaves, trees, ground, person. Eating them. Just making person to bleed everywhere.”

A phenomenal film, Beasts of No Nation stays with you for a long time.

This should have been up for best picture, best actor, best supporting actor, best director and best cinematography Oscars. I would think the distribution method made them ineligible for the awards.

Beasts of No Nation was simultaneously released on Netflix VOD and in cinemas. This meant cinema chains lost their exclusive premiering window (like normally how one would watch a film in cinema because it is released there first and comes to the home later.)

For this reason the main and biggest cinema chains decided to boycott the film. It received huge praise but a tiny profit and was only shown in independent theatres. Netflix’s first feature film that they financed, Beasts of No Nation was ineligible for the awards as experts believed it to be detrimental to the industry, having a simultaneous home and theatre release.
